Last year Girl Gamer Galaxy visited Tomofair and told you all about our little shopping haul. This year we visited Tomofair Amsterdam. Tomofair is a Japanese themed indoor market with anime, games, cosplay, manga and more. We always love to share our experiences with you and because a picture is worth a thousand words here’s a short photo-impression of our visit.
Hello Japanese culture lovers!
The organisation behind Tomofair decided to move their event from Nijmegen to the Dutch capital, Amsterdam. This new location offered more space for all you Japanese culture lovers out there. At least it was supposed to be. Turns out that a lot of people decided to visit the event. Things got a little bit crowded. But hey! The more the merrier right?
What to do at Tomofair Amsterdam?
So what to do at an event like Tomofair? Or the better question is: what to do first? We decided to start the day with some Karaoke. After searching through a very long list of possible songs we finally decided to sing ‘Losing my religion’ by R.E.M. Luckily nobody recorded our performance (we hope). The following group of girls were way more entertaining anyways. We loved how they put their heart and soul into singing their favourite song.
Game (not) over
After clearing our throats with some Karaoke it was time to watch some game battles. Multiple exciting Super Smash Melee and Pokémon Sun&Moon battles were held during the event. After watching a few rounds we obviously wanted to play some videogames ourselves. Lucky for us there were plenty of game consoles available. Think of the Nintendo Wii U, the Nintendo Wii, the Nintendo GameCube, the Nintendo 64, the Nintendo NES, the PlayStation 4, 3 and 2 and the XBox and Xbox 360.
We weren’t constricted to playing just videogames. Card games and board games were also available. For example. Here’s a group of people enjoying an exiting game of Werewolves. We hope te villagers survived!
Not able to sit still for that long? For the groovy types among us there was also some Dance Dance Revolution available. It was pretty strange though to see the screen set up between some mannequins.
Shop till you drop
Multiple standholders displayed their merchandise during Tomofair Amsterdam. Manga, comics, (board)games, Japanese themed stationary items, Samurai swords, Japanese candy. You name it, it was there. We found some real ’treasures’ during our so called goodie hunt . In the end we went home with a cool gold Pac-Man ring, some candy and a Totoro sharpener. We really regret not buying this awesome Goomba hat.
Snack time
Singing, gaming and spending money makes a girl hungry. Time for some (Japanese) food and drinks. Unfortunately the line to get some noodles and bubble tea was extremely long! So we decided to get some Don Buri (Japanese rice bowl dish) and some potions instead. Totally revived we continued.
Awesome people
The thing we love to do the most during an event like Tomofair is to meet (up) with people. Like we said before. The event was pretty crowded. So that means there were plenty of people out there to meet (think positive folks). Many thanks goes out to the awesome people who made our day worthwhile.
Until next time!
Despite the long waitinglines we really enjoyed our visit and we cannot wait to visit the next Tomocon event. We hope to see you there! Because we are ready to mingle!
