On the 17th of December Girl Gamer Galaxy visited Dutch Xmas Con, a popculture event with a ’taste’ of Christmas. During this event we encountered many great cosplayers, visited a whole lot of stands (with some awesome merchandise) and talked to a lot of interesting people. And now we want to share our experience with you (our dear fellow geeks) so here’s a short (photo)impression of our day.
A ’taste’ of Christmas
Dutch Xmas Con, what does that even mean? Do we sing ‘Jingle bells’ while we wear our wooden shoes and look at some comics? No, not really… Although we have to admit there was some singing involved (Karaoke). And yes of course we looked at some comics. But there is so much more to it. After entering the event we walked straight into ‘Whoville’ where we almost got hit by some gift wrapped Christmas presents thrown by the Whoville villagers. Entering the other areas of the Utrecht Jaarbeurs (the Dutch venue where the event was held) we were confronted with a whole lot of Christmas trees and other Christmas decorations. All the visitors we met were in good spirits and ready for the upcoming holidays. Can you think of a more cheerful Con?
Dealers and their Merchandise
Arriving early has its benefits. We were able to take a good look at the available merchandise. Because… hey, we all know that visiting the dealer room is an essential part of a Comic Con visit. Here’s a list of some other stuff that caught our eye: Hand-painted sneakers, cool t-shirts, Batman egg holders and ‘surprise’ boxes filled monthly with geeky, cool stuff. You name it, it was there.
Jingle uhh… Cosplay all the way!
What’s a Comic Con without some cosplayers? It wouldn’t be a real Comic Con, would it? Many thanks goes out to the cosplayers who had enough patience to pose for us (and with us). This cheerful D.va says Peace!
And yes we were trying to catch (steal) Bowtruckle! I mean, who doesn’t wants to have a fantastic beast? Right?
Dutch Xmas Con meets E-sports
There were several e-sport tournaments held during Dutch Xmas Con. An intense Fireside Gathering (Hearthstone) and a very exciting Fifa 17 tournament took place at one of the Dutch Xmas Con areas. By the way,did you know that Girl Gamer Galaxy (GGG) is starting an e-sports team together with Asterion? Read more about it here.
Special Guests
Of course there were some actors from our favourite tv shows present. Girl Gamer Galaxy interviewed Sibel Kekilli, best known for her role as Shae in Game of Thrones (Read our interview with Sibel here). We also had the pleasure to run into actor James Cosmo, also known for his part in Game of Thrones as Lord Commander of the Night’s Watch. Here, posing with what might be his biggest fan.
Until the next event?
Overal we really enjoyed our visit to Dutch Xmas Con and we cannot wait to visit the next Dutch Comic Con event on the 25th and 26th of March 2017. We hope to see you there!
