The Gaming Mom: Dominique
Hey all, let me introduce myself. My name is Dominique, also known as HOOLIGAN among the gamers who have played games with me in the past. I’m 18 years old. Ehmm I’m just kidding! I’m 30 years old and a mother of four beautiful children. I got into gaming at an early age and played on the Nintendo, Super Nintendo, Sega and other consoles. I used to play a lot of Super Mario Bros.,Donkey Kong and Sonic The Hedgehog. Yes, a lot of old school games. Until I got a PlayStation 2 on my birthday and now I’ve moved on to PlayStation 3 and 4. The PlayStation has become a part of our house, something we can’t imagine living without.
How did I meet the love of my life?
It all started in november 2009. I had purchased the PlayStation 3 and Call of Duty: World at War. I needed to make an account, but couldn’t decide on a name for myself. And decided to go for nmgn_girl_23 because I was 23 years old and lived in Nijmegen, a city in the Netherlands. Makes sence, right? Back then I used to work with Yumi, one of the founders of Girl Gamer Galaxy, and I remember telling her about Call of Duty, especially the zombie mode ‘ Der Riese’ . Exactly one month later I received a private message on PlayStation from someone asking me where I came from. I remember not really feeling up to having a conversation, but I thought “What the heck, it’s probably some guy from another country anyway.”
So I started talking to him and found out that his name was Firat and he lived 70 kilometers away from me. We liked talking and started playing games together. We even went as far as exchanging e-mails, chatting on MSN and calling eachother. It was a lot of fun, but we hadn’t met eachother in real life. One day at work I was telling my friend Yumi all about my gaming buddy when I received a text message. Turns out my game buddy / mystery man was on his way to Nijmegen! And I was finally going to meet him.
How does my life look now?
Fast forward 7 years and you find me engaged to my boyfriend and have two beautiful sons. We live together and play Call of Duty together. Since I celebrate my birthday around the launch of the new Call of Duty games, I receive it as a gift every year. And it makes me really happy. I must confess that I am in love with Call of Duty way more than my boyfriend is, it seems like he’s getting over the game. But I am still a hardcore fan.
My favorite Call of Duty games are Modern Warfare 2 (with my G18) and Black Ops 2. I don’t always find the time to play as much as I used to, life get’s busy when you are a mom, have work, have a boyfriend and chores. Because I need to devide my attention, I have made a new schedule. Sunday is mommy’s gaming day! My kids love gaming too, so often we play together.
What are my plans for the future?
Hmmm yes, what are my plans for the coming years? I plan to be happy with the love of my life and my beautiful children. And gaming will always be part of that life. I often joke that even in a nursing home, when I’m old and gray, you will find me playing games with the help of warzone hacks. Gaming has always been a part of my life, and I can’t imagine that changing in the future.
