This year we are excited to share a list of family-friendly games for Halloween to play with loved ones. Halloween is when people of all ages embrace their inner ghoul, witch, or monster and indulge in some spooky fun. While many Halloween activities are geared toward the older crowd, there are family-friendly options if you want to share the holiday spirit with younger family members.
Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered
One fantastic way to do this is by playing family-friendly games, and one standout title in this category is “Ghostbusters: The Video Game Remastered.” The game was released in 2019 and brings the iconic Ghostbusters franchise back to life in an interactive and family-friendly way. The game was already available on Steam, PlayStation 5, and Xbox One, but we had the pleasure of playing it on the Nintendo Switch, before it’s release on that platform on October 4th. Well in time for the spooky season.
The game combines action, adventure, and puzzle-solving elements as you capture ghosts, uncover paranormal mysteries, and explore iconic locations from the films. It’s a perfect Halloween gaming experience for both kids and adults, allowing families to bond over nostalgia and spooktacular moments.
Luigi’s Mansion 3
Nintendo’s lovable plumber Luigi takes center stage in “Luigi’s Mansion 3,” a delightful and spooky adventure suitable for players of all ages. This game combines humor, puzzles, and ghost-catching action as Luigi explores a haunted hotel to rescue his friends from the mischievous King Boo. With its charming art style and family-friendly gameplay, this game has a spot on our list of family-friendly games for Halloween.
The cooperative multiplayer mode allows players to join forces in the ghost-busting fun, making it an excellent choice for family game nights.
Little Nightmares
Families with older children or teens might enjoy the slightly spookier atmosphere of Little Nightmares. This game offers a thrilling adventure with a macabre aesthetic. While it’s a bit darker than the previous games, it still maintains a family-friendly tone with an eerie narrative. In this game, you guide a small character named Six through a nightmarish world filled with grotesque enemies and puzzles. The game’s visuals and atmospheric storytelling create a unique Halloween gaming experience that can be enjoyed by older kids and adults alike.
Costume Quest Series
If you’re looking for a humorous Halloween-themed game for the whole family, the “Costume Quest” series is a great choice. These games follow the adventures of children who transform into powerful warriors when they put on Halloween costumes. The game combines turn-based combat with exploration, puzzle-solving, and witty dialogue. And also offers imaginative Halloween-themed worlds, costume collections, and monster battles. The game’s humor makes it a fantastic choice for kids. And also a nostalgic trip down memory lane for adults who remember their trick-or-treating adventures.
Plants vs. Zombies: Battle for Neighborville
We at Girl Gamer Galaxy were debating what game should take the last spot in our family-friendly games for Halloween. We had to make sure that it was both a Halloween game and playable for the whole family. Don’t Starve Together has that eerie vibe, but isn’t per se a Halloween game. Though the game does have Halloween skins and events, both are part of the reason why this game is so addictive. Then you have Five Nights at Freddy’s. Which is very fit for a creepy Halloween, but perhaps a bit too creepy for the entire family to play. So that game has gotten a spot on our list of top 5 Horror games.
So we had to go with “Plants vs. Zombies”. This game is known as a tower defense game, but the “Battle for Neighborville” installment takes a more action-oriented approach. It’s a perfect choice for families looking for Halloween-themed fun that doesn’t involve traditional scares. In this game, players choose to be a plant or a zombie. And team up with others in cooperative or competitive modes. The Halloween-themed events and maps add a seasonal twist, while are in battles with quirky characters and spooky aesthetics. With its funny visuals and humor, it’s a great way to spend Halloween with some lighthearted, action-packed gaming.
