Stepping foot in Edinburgh for the first time is an experience like no other. The city is a fascinating mix of old and new. You can enjoy stunning architecture that tells the story of its rich history. Old Town is a maze of narrow streets called wynds and closes, with buildings that date back to medieval times. New Town, on the other hand, is an elegant and sophisticated area filled with Georgian buildings and stylish shops.
Despite the stark contrast between the two areas, the whole city feels magical. It’s no surprise that Edinburgh has long been associated with myths, legends, and the supernatural. The city’s ancient history and Gothic architecture create an atmosphere that is both eerie and enchanting. It’s no secret that Edinburgh played a significant role in inspiring J.K. Rowling’s creation of the Harry Potter series. She famously wrote the books while living in the city. The story is filled with references to its landmarks and history. The winding alleys and towering buildings of the Old Town are said to have inspired Rowling’s vision of Diagon Alley, while the impressive Edinburgh Castle served as the inspiration for Hogwarts.
An evening full of magic
For anyone visiting this magical city and looking for a fun evening with a touch of magic, The Cauldron in Edinburgh is the place to be. This cocktail bar offers a truly unique experience, from the moment you step into the bar, you are transported to a world of wizardry and enchantment. The decor is immersive, with flickering candles, dark wooden tables, and shelves filled with spell books and potion bottles. The staff is dressed in black robes, greets you, and gives you a wand to start your magical journey.
One of the most exciting parts of The Cauldron experience is creating your own wand. The staff provides a selection of wooden sticks and a variety of adornments such as crystals, feathers, and gemstones to choose from. Once you have crafted your wand, you move on to the potions station, where you can create your own custom cocktail.
The potions station is where the magic happens. You choose from a range of ingredients, including fruits, herbs, and spices, to mix and create your own unique cocktail. The bartender provides instructions on how to mix the ingredients and cast a spell to make your drink truly magical. You can also choose from a selection of pre-made cocktails that are inspired by magical spells and ingredients. My favorite is the ‘ Dragon’s Breath’ a Wray & Nephew and white rum with homemade strawberry syrup, fresh-squeezed lime juice, and topped with ‘a ball of fire’.

Take a good look at your surroundings when visiting the Cauldron, because the attention to detail is exceptional. The staff is knowledgeable and enthusiastic, and they take great care in ensuring that every aspect of the experience is memorable. The drinks are not only delicious but also visually stunning, with smoke, dry ice, and other special effects.
It can get quite busy, so it’s essential to book ahead to avoid disappointment. But if you do manage to snag a spot, it’s well worth the wait. The Cauldron in Edinburgh is an experience that you won’t forget, and it’s the perfect spot for a special occasion or a fun night out with friends. Still not enough magic? That sounds so fun!! I lived in Japan for a long time, and Tokyo and Fukuoka also have some interestingly themed restaurants. If you ever go to Japan, you should look them up. I will definitely look up the Cauldron if I ever go to Edinburgh!
